Carl Stevens

I am a singer-songwriter, writer and musician, originally from Exeter, Devon (UK), though I am resident in Italy (Viterbo, Lazio), where I work as an English language tutor and Director of Studies. I graduated from Bath Spa University, Bath, Somerset (UK) in 2011 with a First-Class B.A. Hons degree in Creative Writing (major) and English Literature, conducting further studies in the field of Environmental Sciences.

Since I began studying music as a teenager, I have played guitar with blues and rock bands, pausing during my years of tertiary study to concentrate on the craft of writing (in particular poetry, short stories and travel-writing). Over the last couple of years, I have returned to music, directing my attention to the craft of song-writing, which I feel provides me with the means of blending my passions.

Some of my inspirations and influences – to name just a few – include: Jack Johnson, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Donovan, Neil Young, Joan Baez, Devotchka, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles and The Eagles, as song-writers, lyricists and musicians; as well as poets Pablo Neruda, W.H. Auden, E.E. Cummings and Charles Simic.
